Fall Sunless Blog

falldrynessbloggraphicLooking forward to the Fall season and all the wonderful times it brings? Hoodies, Boots, Bonfires, Pumpkin Spice & everything Nice!

We may enjoy this time of year, but as the leaves are falling, so are the temps. The cooler months are upon us, leading to dry skin. Overly dry skin can create havoc on a spray tan. It not only creates an uneven surface, but can actually prevent absorption of DHA. Your clients will want to keep their skin moisturized prior to and for the duration of their tan. Make sure you discuss this topic with your clients – they will THANK YOU!

Q: You told me to exfoliate prior to my spray tan and now you are telling me to moisturize as well??

A: Exfoliation is a priority when spray tanning to prevent uneven, patchy color. Gentle exfoliation should be done to basically prime your skin to receive a more even & longer lasting spray tan. Exfoliating will slough off the top layer of dead skin cells, which will allow for a smooth base for the spray tan to be applied. The fresher your skin cells, the longer the life of your tan. A harsh exfoliation is not needed.

Use a gentle exfoliator that is specified for sunless for best results; however, if that is unavailable then use one that does not contain oil.

Exfoliate 24-48 hours prior to appointment so that your skin has time to calm down.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize daily up until the day of your spray tan!

The key is to keep your skin healthily moisturized daily, but not immediately before the spray tan.

Tip: For those with extremely dry skin in certain areas (i.e.: shins) you could recommend moisturizing that area 3 – 4 hours prior to their spray tan. Suggest a sunless specific moisturizer & to avoid products containing fragrance & alcohol.
