The Struggle is Real: How to survive THRIVE J.A.S.O.N.!

We won’t try to convince you that times aren’t tough. We know they are. And now that we are living through our industry’s slow season (aka J.A.S.O.N. – July, August, September, October, November) – times might be the toughest ever. But there are ways to not only survive this period but actually make it work in your favor. Here’s how!

We are going to turn the letters J.A.S.O.N. into positive actions you and your staff can take to not only turn the slow season into a season of sales but also take actions to set your salon up for optimal operation before heading back into busy season.

J – Join in online. Slow season is the perfect time to focus on social media interaction, email marketing and growing your online reviews. Specifically, you should…

• Create a promotional events calendar.

• Create and schedule future social media posts.

• Have young people to model your current stock of apparel and accessories. Take pics and post them on social media.

A – Adapt your retail.  Adapting your retail to appeal to local consumers is key to making slow season a success. Tanning season may have slowed but consumers are still shopping. FS Boutique offers unique apparel and accessories that are unlike any other items found in main streams. Use this resource to cater to your local community.

• Bring in items that are the colors of the local schools and universities.

• Team up with local schools and colleges by creating packages and promos tailored for games, tailgate parties, dances, sorority and fraternity functions and other academic events.

S - Summer Tan Packages. Summer tan packages are an excellent way for salons to lock-in revenue for the year, and guarantee future foot traffic - which means more up-selling opportunities for your staff. Plus, later in the year, you can sell these customers lotion, sunglasses, accessories, lip balm, moisturizer, apparel and more!

Summer Package ideas:

• Unlimited tanning in any unit for the remainder of the year.

•  UV and Sunless Combo Packages

• Monthly Sunless Packages

O – Open Your Salon.  Open your salon to the local community during slow season by hosting an Open House event. You can create promos and packages just for the occasion. These events reward your loyal customers while also showing potential clients what you have to offer. You can offer drinks and snacks, decorate your salon and get your staff fully involved.  Some other ideas are…

• Go the extra mile and have live music.

• Recruit live, local models to walk around the room wearing your retail products.

• Expand to the sidewalk or parking lot if possible.

• Consider a Midnight Madness event “When the sun goes down, so do the prices!”
