It’s the scariest month of the year, but it doesn’t have to be terrifying on your books! Played right, October can kick off a small surge of business in the fall. Starting in October, you should start marketing efforts that will give you the momentum to finish out 2014 strong and bring 2015 in with a running start. Ready for some ideas?
Costume Before/After Pics
Gone are the days where only the little ones don Tinkerbell and Wonder Woman costumes. Tinkerbell and Wonder Woman make their appearances at the adult parties, too. The only difference is that the tights are tighter (or non-existent) and the skirts are shorter….MUCH shorter. You may not have a huge inflated Jack-O-Lantern on top of your salon, but you have the secret to making those costumes look the best. That’s right….if legs are going to be exposed, they need to have a great tan!
How do you get this point across to Tink? Pictures, of course! Find models that have costumes. Snap a picture in the costume before tanning. After a week of UV tanning or one spray tan, snap another pic in the same costume. If you have a smart phone, you will have several options to make a collage with the Before/After. Once you put that together, post it on your Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. It’s as easy as that!
Halloween Tanning Packages
Once you post the costume Before/After pics, you’ll want to have an easy package to sell to Wonder Woman. Be sure to design this so that Wonder Woman gets the darkest, prettiest tan possible. She is investing in her costume, so give her a step-by-step guide for “Optimal Results.”
When Wonder Woman pays a flat rate ($30, $40, or $50), she can tan in any of your beds for the entire month. You provide her with an instruction card or paper, which details the beds she should tan in for each week leading up to the big party. This card also stresses the importance of a salon quality tanning lotion and tan extender.
Trick or Treat Pics
Halloween is on a Friday this year. That means that parents have more time to take their children trick-or-treating without worrying about school the next morning. Most likely, you won’t have a busy night in the tanning salon, so take that time to build relationships. Encourage your regular customers to bring their little goblins and witches by for a picture. Post the pictures to your social media accounts. Not only will you solidify your relationship with regular customers, but you will also pick up more followers. Posting pictures of adorable little kids will help your organic reach!
This will be very helpful for the next few months coming up. In November, we’ll build on social media exposure to maximize holiday retail sales. Be sure to check back in late October to find out how to prepare for November. We’re still dedicated to making the most of Fall in your salon!
